Russian Military Propaganda

This video is so damned cool because when you break it down in this manner:

0 – 1 min: We are still a military power. If you fxxk around with us, this is how we kill you… * Nuclear detonation x 2 *

2 – 7 min: But we may not need to kill you with that. We have so many nice killing machines we can throw at you to make you miserable. Afraid yet?

7.25 – 8.5 min: And we are thinking of many new ways to kill you. This is one of them… * Fifth Generation *

8.5 – 9 min: But our existing ones are advanced enough already. Wanna see a Gulf-War style smart bombing and a nice little display of lights?

9 min to end: And if you think that weapons are no big deal and all that matters is the soldiers behind it, meet the Spetsnaz, our special force, our best of the best.

A Tribute to the Merkava Mk.4

“Singapore bought Leopard 2A4s!!” And the next thing that happened, my phone got several SMS, my email had a few referene to this, and even my RSS reader has that news on it.

Well, about bloody damned time. Even though during my time in NS, I served beside the SM-1, I have always considered that the SM-1 the weakest link in the up and coming 3G SAF. I simply cannot envision the electronic systems available to the Bionix II being fitted into that tank. And note, I am not saying anything about the effectiveness or the ability of that tank at all. It has served Singapore well, and it’s just simply time for it to take its place in the history of our national defense.

The Leopard 2 is a natural choice for a replacement. After all, it was nominated the best tank by one Discovery Channel documentary. Even without Chobham armour, it comes with adequate protection with its perforated armor and it definitely is value for money. The multi-fuel engine beats the M1’s gas-turbine – essentially a jet engine – hands down by not being a logistical nightmare, be it refuelling it or maintaining it. (And it’s not like the Americans will sell it to us, right?)

Download and view it in full size

The Leopard 2 has a 120mm smooth-bore gun, typically the standard calibre main armament among many modern Western Main Battle Tanks [MBTs] today, and probably almost the limit the calibre of tank guns can go. The reason for that, according to one of my tankie officers, is that it would be very difficult for a loader handle the ammunition if the calibre continue to increase, but that doesn’t mean that an automatic loader won’t be in the works. [A 140mm is already in the works, however.]

But whatever the merits of the German Leopard 2, the Merkava will always be the MBT of my choice. Just like the T-34 is a symbol of the might of the Soviet Union in World War II, the Merkava is a fusion of the tenacity and the engineering might of the Jewish people and the Israeli State.

So here’s a video as a tribute to the Merkava Mk.4: Once and Forever King of MBTs.

Metal Storm: Gun of the Future?

Taiwan’s China Times reported that China was trying to hire some of the guys from Metal Storm and the Australian gover-min stepped in and stop these designers from helping China design or build one of these.

Whatever the case is, Israeli cities in the north just need some of these against those nuisance from Hezbollah.

Just imagine this some time into the future:

* Incoming – Missile from Lebanon *

* BLAAAAMMM – Metal Storm Fires *

* BOOM – Missile destroyed off target *

And then the Hezbollah and Nasrallah can laugh and boast no more about their victory.

WZ-10: The Puzzling…

Either the Chinese military is learning something from Maskirovka, the fictitious Intelligence service of the similarly fictitious House Liao / Capellan Confederation in the Battletech universe, or the WZ-10 has several prototypes or several different versions.

Here are more pics of gunships, all allegedly, the WZ-10 [武直-10].

Note, I am NOT calling them outright fakes. I suspect there is a WZ-10 in the making. But I have gone through several sites in Google and Baidu using the keyword ‘WZ-10’ to search and I am getting so many photos of gunships looking different from one another that I must question which of these pictures are real.

Below: The one on the left looks very convincing. The one on the right, well, looks like an artist impression using the copy function of Adobe Photoshop. Just look at the blade positions. Too unison. And look at the tail rotor… erm.. what tail rotor?

WZ-10: The Real Thing? Or Just Another Hoax?

Some pics of the WZ-10 have been circulated on the Internet, even on the Sinodefence site. But the pics are either too small or too distorted to make out if it’s real or just another Adobe Photoshop hoax.

I have downloaded the pics and am posting them here. Take a look at them.

And this is what I found on a forum. I didn’t really read what was posted there but it suggests that the pics are fakes. Adding to the number of artist impressions and fakes in circulation on the net, I am not surprised if these are fakes anyway. But I’ll leave it for you to judge.
